A Memo about saving on AOL Services

Fellow web site owner:

You are part a grand new experiment called the INTERNET.  The latest figures show a substantial growth in INTERNET activity of 70,000+ per week fast approaching over 200,000,000 computer users.  Look at the action of INTERNET stocks and new computer sales.

The purpose of the INTERNET is to promote your business or service to your valued and potential clients.  One way to accomplish this is to utilize the power of the INTERNET by registering your web site with search engines.  This involves some programing tricks all ready implemented on your page.  Keywords imbedded into your page are read by each search engine for its database.  When a potential client types a word for Yahoo's search engine, for example, the word is compared to Yahoo's database and your page is found on the list of where the keywords located.  It's a lot easier than looking through the phone book.

There are other things you can do to promote your site. Be sure to include your web address on your business cards, letterheads and envelopes, office location, and any time you advertise.  Include the web site on your phone message for anyone calling your business after hours. You should also check with companies you do business with.  Sharing links from a each other's page increases the chance you could be 'found' by a new client.  E-mail any new links you would like included on your page.  Links from e-mail can be added to your page almost instantly.  Just copy the URL (http://) address from your browser and paste it on the e-mail.  Re- typing the URL can lead to mistakes.

My mall www.Li-Businesslink.com, which includes a link to your page, will be promoting it's self.  A commercial TV and cable ad is being produced.  If you would like to be included in cooperative advertising, contact me.  I'm constantly updating the site to include new web page clients.  When any new product or service is promoted, visitors will also see your listing. I have a service we can utilize to promote several web pages (URL'S) in bulk.  If just five of my pages participants list with this service, there is a substantial discount, it cost about $30.00 each to be 'priority' listed with 400 search engines.  Please e-mail me if you are interested.

As always, thanks for choosing me as your web manager.  Here is wishing us all continued business growth.

John

Saving money
Once again, the computer saves the day. Saving money on
the Internet is almost as fun as surfing itself.

I'm in the market for a car. Several sites on line (some free)
are there for comparing the class and style I'm interested in.
Consumer Reports back issue reports are on line at their site.
Consumer Reports on line costs $2.95 per month. Current
subscribers can sign-up on line for $19.00 per year ($24).

An other car price on line service is AutoAdvantage. They
set you up with a local dealer who is supposed to have a
"insider's" price. It remains to be seen how good the service is.
The "insider" price is quoted to be $100.00 over dealers cost.

AOL problems. I temporarily set up my daughter with AOL in college.
Access was spotty as I often report. A local ISP is more reliable
because less people are dialing in to it's local number.
The local ISP should charge you less than AOL. Some of AOL's
features are available for free, like Instant Messaging. You
download IM from the www.aol.com site. It sets up easily. AOL
helps you choose your own screen name, then type AOL screen
names into your buddylist and your on your way.

If it is internet speed you want, sign up for Optimum On-line
or your local cable company cable modem service. Faster than
T1 and any telephone modem a cable modem transfers data in the
megabyte range, (The most popular modem for home is 28.8k).
The $29.99 price may sound high but when you consider the cost
of an extra phone line ($12.00-16.00) per month and the cost of an
ISP ($12.00 - 22.00) you can see it's a bargain. If you sign-up - to
Optimum give my name, I get a months credit.

'AOL' and 'AOL Instant Messenger' the free service and
cable modems.

AOL has buddy lists where AOL subscribers can reach
each other on-line in real time, instantly. The same is for
AOLIM users. AOLers can download AOLIM to their computers,
use their AOL screen names and invite AOLIM into private chat
rooms just like AOL users. You do not have to be on AOL, just
AOLIM to chat in AOLIM chat rooms. It is easy to set up, AOL's
directions were quite clear. The set up is different if you are
currently an AOL subscriber or just downloading AOLIM as a
non subscriber. As an AOL subscriber you Buddy List is automatically
copied into the AOLIM Buddy list. Of course the purpose of AOLIM is
to advertise AOL to all non AOL users. It is a great service and worth
any amount of ads.

Since AOLIM is free and you can get email and internet service from
any provider other than AOL, any service will do to connect to the
internet. If you use a second phone line and AOL it would cost about
$40.00 per month. If you only have one phone line, think of the non- on- line
people who get busy signals while your phone is tied up. That is why the
cable modem is a good deal. For $30 per month you get internet
four e-mails and speed you would not believe (they install the equipment you
need directly into you computer which includes a LAN communication card
costing $10.00 per month for the first five months). Normal downloads with
a 28.8k connection (most common) of, say the Netscape 4.5 upgrade would
take an hour and a half. My download takes under five min. You may be
using a 56k modem but most phone lines top off at 30k anyway. Bell still
has to upgrade it's system.

Then there is the AOL cutoff. AOL will drop you to put an other user on-line.
If you are answering your email (typing), in-between 'sends' or downloading
a lengthy program, they consider you 'idle' and drop you from the line. You
are using their phone connection, there is a lot of competition to dial in.
AOL is national and has limited input lines. They'd like it if you still pay
them and use someone else for your Internet input - Internet Service Provider
(ISP). At least they're not greedy, they will discount full service to $10.00
per month. Better yet, use the cable modem, for internet access and a new
email address, AOLIM for real time chat and chat rooms and keep AOL
for old email and other features you may like for 2 hours a month access.
AOL then costs $5.00 per month.

Early on in cyber space, computer users would be billed by the hour
for some one on line services. We learned to download email or programs
on cheaper hours or compose all writing off-line and then go on-line to
'send'. If I had AOL I would use it that way and pay only the $5.00 per
month. But, I've had all the services at one time or the other I really
think this solution beats all others.

Earn, own, and collect your share of the Web. This is an update about making money
on the web. The number of users of the Internet is expected to grow to two thirds of American households
by the year 2003. As of right now, 90% of all American homes have access to the Internet through local
ISP'S.

The services available and ways to earn money are varied.

      0 Browser rebates

      0 Secure Servers

      0 Virtual Web Stores

      0 IPO Stocks

      0 Free stuff

Browser rebates: Several companies are rebating the cost of your surfing. Offering cash payment per
hour of intemet use and a commission if you will pass the plan on to friends, you view ads on the top
of your computer screen. There is some competition among the ad companies. One plan is .40 an hour
and .10 from your friend's account. You could collect $40.00 per month. For most users, your ISP
would be free. Send your email address to me, at jjm@li-businesslink.com I'll pass the info on to you.

Secure Servers: You have a great product or service idea. This is where you start. You've entered the
e-commerce zone. Are you ready to collect money from your web visitors? You must make sure your
server is transaction secure to collect credit card info. Banks are getting into the secure transaction
service. Not only will they process the credit card for you; they will deposit the funds right into your
account.

Virtual Web Stores: If you are interested, you could sell brand name items on the web. This is also
part of the E-Commerce revolution. There are several stores and manufacturers who will give you a
commission if visitors to your site purchase products. Registration is quick and easy. You will get a
coded address so the store can pass on the commission to you. Most companies will credit your
account imtil they send you a check for at least $50.00. Do a search for Affiliate Programs to find the
companies making this offer. Some of the sites are already secure so you don't have to be. They collect the credit card info and send you your share by check. WWW.Itemmall.com is my web store consisting of clients I have built web pages for, affilate links I get commision for and links to my shopping mall that I also get commission for and discounts for my own purchases.

IPO Stocks: New companies are making free stock available to introduce themselves. As owners, in
this Initial Public Offering (IPO) you get a chance to own more stock by sending the offer to other
potential owners. The companies want you to buy from them of course but, there is no obligation.

Free stuff. Many companies are giving away stuff so you will sign up and visit their page. Even the
WB is giving away 5megs of web space called Acmecity.com and you can use animated graphics
supplied by Warner Brothers to adorn the site. Pick your favorite WB Star and build your site.

I'll keep you advised of any changes and other offers.
